The speed of your plan is the maximum possible connection speed at which you can access the Internet. Put another way it's the maximum possible connection speed between your modem and your local phone exchange for your plan. The maximum speeds possible with broadband are 8Mbps download and 800Kbps upload. There are several factors that can affect the maximum speed you can receive:
More generally, the day-to-day speed of your broadband connection can also be affected by the following:
Your monthly data allowance is measured by how much data you use. Put simply, every time you use the Internet to send an email or visit a webpage you're using data. So, it's a good idea to keep an eye on your data usage. If you exceed your monthly allowance you will be billed 2c (incl. GST) per MB (or part thereof) that you use over your data allowance. Additional 10Gb blocks can be pre-purchased at $10.00 per month. For your safety you can check your usage online at any time by logging into My Swiift, and we also send you email alerts when you are nearing your data limit. AvailabilityIt's important to know that Swiift Broadband is not available on all phone lines. So, while broadband might be available in your area, we can't guarantee that it's available on your phone line or what your connection speed will be when you sign-up. Once you are connected we will test your line. At this point, if there are any issues with your connection speed, we will be in contact to discuss your options. For example, you can choose to remain on your current plan, change to another plan with a lower connection speed, or cancel the service. What you will needBroadband Installation You need to have a connected telephone line, and you will need to have broadband enabled on this phone line. There are two flavours of installation, a 'self-install', and a 'full-install'. Self-InstallA technician is sent to your local telephone exchange to enable broadband on your line. Self-installs are currently free till the end of 2006. Full-InstallThe technician also visits your house to complete some physical wiring that means you will not need to use line filters. A full-install is necessary in some situations such as if you have a monitored alarm, a PABX, or more than 5 phone jacks. If you are not sure if you need this call our helpdesk on 0800 292 376. Full-installs are currently available at the reduced rate of $149.95 (usually $249.95). Already have broadband? If you already have broadband through another provider you can currently switch to one of Cybermedia's great plans for free. DSL ModemTo get broadband you need a broadband modem. Swiift customers get access to some great Cybermedia-customer-only deals on modems, and we can have them couriered right to your door.
